Essentially DIY Projects

I was busy yesterday and totally forgot about blogging.  I do have 2 essential oil recipes that I did last week and both turned out great.

The first was a DIY eye make up remover ~ its awesome

Equal parts of fractionated coconut oil (fco) and water
1/2 the above amount of witch hazel
25 drops Lavender Essential Oil

(On the fco water and witch hazel, I did 2 tbsp. each of the fco and water and 1 tablespoon of the wh)

I didn't take a picture because a pic of a bottle of clear liquid is not real exciting.  But I love this stuff ~ will definitely be replacing my old make up remover with this.  Very soothing and easy to use ~ I squirt it on the little cotton rounds.  I got this recipe from my friend Kim, in Mississippi!

The next is DIY- Moisturizing Lotion Bars (from doTERRA)

2/3 cup beeswax
1/2 cup coconut oil (not fractionated)
1/2 cup cocoa butter
1 teaspoon vitamin E oil (got at Walmart)
15 drops doTERRA oil (I used citrus bliss ~ 20-25 drops would have been better)

*Measure all ing., except for Essential oil in a large glass jar (used a quart canning jar)
*Place jar in saucepan with 1-1.5 inches of boiling water
*Stir ingredients till combined (its takes a little while for the beeswax to completely melt)
*Once, melted, remove from heat. Let rest 3 minutes.
*Add essential oil and stir.
*Pour mixture into a silicone mold.
*Let mixture harden 2-3 hours. Wrap in plastic wrap and store in container until ready to use.
*Rub lotion bar on skin for extreme moisture.

Pictures ~

the jar is ready for the boiling water
The ingredients ~ I used beeswax pellets because they are supposed to melt faster

the ingredients are starting to melt

for the 2nd batch I put a crocheted dishrag on the bottom of the pan, kept the jar from rattling in the water!

all melted and ready to pour

I got this cute owl mold of wish ~ for little lotion bars

Got this mold off wish too ~ both work well ~ this one is a little too big
Next time I will use a little deeper pot.  I am also going to make a batch of lavender/frankincense bars ~ I think it will smell amazing and both oils have great skin soothing/rejeuvinating properties.  Since we used the silicone molds the bars came right out.  The owl faces & details are cute but after you use it a couple of times....all the detail has melted away.

*These do not feel greasy.  I just rub it on my skin and it absorbs pretty quickly.

*Using 15 drops of oil is not enough scent ~ as Amy said "she can still smell the beeswax".

*In the summertime, you may have to refrigerate these, coconut oil melts at the 70 degree range ~ not sure what it will do in this mixture.

Both recipes are a keeper!  I have used both daily since I made them!  Bonus ~ there are no ingredients that I don't know what they are!

Colds

We have all got colds here ~ I for one am tired of blowing my nose.  We will get tremendously stopped up and then the airways open and we can breathe again.

I got on pinterest and found a diffuser blend of essential oils for sinusy issues ~ this is being diffused in our living room during the day and at night as we sit and watch tv

2 drops oregano https://doterra.com/US/en/p/oregano-oil
2 drops lemon https://doterra.com/US/en/p/lemon-oil
2 drops peppermint https://doterra.com/US/en/p/peppermint-oil
2 drops Melaleuca https://doterra.com/US/en/p/melaleuca-oil
*I added On Guard and Balance to the mixture also ~ https://doterra.com/US/en/p/on-guard-oil  https://doterra.com/US/en/p/balance-grounding-blend-oil

At night, in the bedroom, I am diffusing Serenity & Breathe.  I have not had any bad stuffiness at night.  https://doterra.com/US/en/p/doterra-serenity-oil https://doterra.com/US/en/p/breathe-respiratory-blend-oil

Still skeptical about essential oils?  Think about this....Bobs candy canes and peppermints us REAL peppermint oil....what do you think that is?  We use lemon juice and lemon rind in cooking/baking recipes....the essential oil is cold pressed from the rind.  We use oregano, thyme, basil, cinnamon, etc. in cooking ~ the essential oil from these items is potent...you only need a drop or 2 to zing up a recipe.

Most bottles are 15ml in size and each holds 250+ drops of oil ~ if you only use 2 drops a day ~ the bottle will last you 125 days or 4 months.

All of the above links go directly to the product information pages on the doTERRA site ~ this site is absolutely full of information on each oil, DIY recipes for all kinds of items to try and  a scientific research blog.  If you would like further information or some samples, please let me know~

Oils are around us everyday, why not give them a try?

Essentially Monday ~ A Week of Thankfulness

Happy Thanksgiving week!

Here are the oils I am especially thankful for ~ they are all doTERRA brand oils ~

Slim & Sassy blend ~ Greg and I take this daily, it really does help curb appetite and flushes our systems

Breathe blend ~ fall allergies are cropping up and this helps open up air passages and calms coughing

Digestzen blend ~ helps with rumbly tummys, discomfort from acid reflux, car sickness issues in little ones.  I can use this straight from the bottle with no problem, we needed to mix it with fco for Greg to use.  It has also helped with monthly upset tummy issues.

Wild Orange & Lemon oils ~ both taste great in my hot spice tea and lemon kicks plain water up a notch

Peppermint ~ besides smelling delicious, it also helps with digestive issues and it tastes awesome in hot chocolate

Clary Calm blend ~ this is good for female issues ~ both for monthly issues and menopause issues

Deep Blue ~ cream or oil ~ great for stiff, achy joints and muscles.  James even used this for the muscle pain associated with kidney stones, last time he had an attack.

Frankincense ~ this Biblical oil is good for so many issues but I am currently using it for  the dizziness that accompanies Meniere's Disease.  It is not a cure but a help when mild dizziness hits.  I put about 10 drops in a glass roller bottle and fill with fco (fractionated coconut oil) ~ gently shake the bottle and roll behind both ears and down the sides of the neck.  It is effective for me.

Lavender ~ the calming properties in this oil make it a great roller bottle oil for the bottoms of feet at bedtime

Serenity blend ~ my favorite bedtime, diffuser oil for the bedroom....I am sleeping really good!

Other than the frankincense, which I use as needed ~ all of the other blends, I use daily.

**None of the above information has been approved by the FDA or is it intended to be medical advice.

**Not all oils are created alike ~ the doTERRA oils single oils are pure oil ~ no fillers or additives.   Oils sold in grocery stores or big box stores are generally diluted, or chemically enhanced.

I am thankful for ~

the oils listed above
the care doTERRA puts into their products
knowing that I can buy their products & not worry about the safety
their "giving back" mentality in helping the regions where these oils are harvested
the kindness of the office staff, when I have a question or concern about my order
the swiftness in receiving the orders
their new low shipping costs ~ $3.99 that is awesome!
being able to get my oils at 25% off
placing a monthly order & earning points toward future purchases
using the points for free oils (great way to stock up on favorites or try something new)
the education provided by my upline
laughter, love, and caring ~ even long distance during online classes
the educational & DIY pages on the doTERRA site

The fact that these oils have been around and used since Biblical times ~ and the creativity of the Lord in His blessing & abundance.

Using more natural products in and for our home ~ topically, aromatically and/or internally.

If you would like more information ~ please message me and I will help in any way I can.  Or visit my online site at http://mydoterra.com/jacksonsessentialoils.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING  week!

Household Recipes for using your Essential Oils ~

Essential Oil Bleach

1 1/2 cups peroxide
1/2 cup lemon juice
10-12 drops lemon oil

Place the above ingredients in a brown or blue bottle with a spray lid ~ fill the remaining space in bottle with water.  Shake gently to combine ingredients.  Shake before using on your stained clothing.  (Peroxide breaks down over time if not protected from the light ~ that's why its sold in brown bottles at retailers!)

DIY 409 type Spray

1/4 cup vinegar
1 3/4 cup water
15 drops each lavender and lemon

Add to a glass spray bottle and shake gently.  This works great on kitchen counters ~ I use it on my granite countertops.  Spray on and wipe off with a paper towel.

Disinfectant Spray

1/2 cup vodka
1/2 cup water
15 drops rosemary essential oil (eo)
25 drops orange eo
15 drops eucalyptus eo
15 drops lavender eo

Gently mix all ingredients into a glass spray bottle, shake gently, then its ready to use.

And why use glass bottles?  Essential oils are strong and they will react adversely to plastic.  You can use clear glass bottle, like the ones vinegar come in, but you will need to cover the bottle with tape or paper, etc.  to the light doesn't break down the oils affect.  This is a fun project to do with all the decorative duct tape that's around these days!  Or you can order brown or blue glass bottles in different sizes online.

Happy mixing ~ oh, I have made and used the first 2 recipes with success, but haven't tried the last one yet.

Thankful for ~

more natural ingredients to use in our home without all the chemicals
people who come up with these recipes and share them

We are adding to our family arsenal of Essential Oils ~ the benefits contained in these little brown bottles is amazing.

Here are some more products we are using ~

Clary Calm is a new one for me to try.  What sold me ~ cooling, soothing, balance emotions~

dōTERRA ClaryCalm® is a proprietary blend of CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® essential oils that provides a soothing and calming effect during a woman's menstrual cycle. A topical blend of Clary Sage, Lavender, Bergamot, Roman Chamomile, Cedarwood, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Fennel, Carrot Seed, Palmarosa and Vitex, ClaryCalm provides a cooling, soothing effect to the skin and helps balance emotions.

dōTERRA On Guard®, a proprietary essential oil blend, provides a natural and effective alternative for immune support.* As one of dōTERRA’s best-selling blends, dōTERRA On Guard protects against environmental and seasonal threats with essential oils known for their positive effects on the immune system.* dōTERRA On Guard can be taken internally on a daily basis to maintain healthy immune function and support healthy cardiovascular function.* It can also be used on surfaces throughout the home as a non-toxic cleaner.*

We have started adding a drop of this blend  to our vegie capsule daily for a boost to our immune system.  The weather is finally cooling down!

Purify is an exclusive combination of essential oils that purify and eradicate odors in a natural, safe way. This uplifting blend combines citrus and pine essential oils that leave an airy, fresh scent on surfaces and in the air. A favorite among dōTERRA users, Purify can replace foul odors quickly and be an effective cleaner throughout the home. For aromatic or topical use.

This is not an oil I particularly like the scent of ~ but diffusing it in our home, successfully takes care of pet odors associated with having indoor dogs.  And it can be used topically on bug bites to take care of the sting and itch.....works great!

Pictured above are some of our favorite oils....ones that we use many days a week ~ and a few that are used every single day.

They are doTERRA's, Breathe, Slim & Sassy, Lemon, Lavendar, Deep Blue, Wild Orange, Peppermint, Serenity, & Purify.

Here is how we use them and any tips we have come up with ~First is information from the company.

Breathe ~ Maintains feelings of clear airways and easy breathing, Helps minimize the effects of seasonal threats, Diffuse or inhale directly from palms, or rub on chest when environmental threats are high (allergies).  We have used this in the little personal inhalers with the cotton wick, rubbed on chest or bottoms of feet for stuffiness and discomfort ~ haven't put it in a diffuser yet, but that would give great benefits to the room you are in.

Slim & Sassy Blend ~ Promotes healthy metabolism, Helps manage hunger cravings, Calms your stomach, Lifts mood, Caffeine free.  Greg and I use this daily in vegie capsules ~ 2 capsules a day.  For me, if definitely helps manage ~ curb hunger.  And since its caffeine free, I don't have to worry about dizziness or sleeplessness.  We usually use at breakfast and early afternoon times.

Lemon ~ Cleanses & purifies the air and surfaces, Naturally cleanses the body and aids in digestion, Supports healthy respiratory function, Diffuse to promote a positive mood.  I add lemon daily to my cold water to drink ~ helps add a little flavor so I drink more water.  I also add it to my hot spice tea for an extra flavor zing.  A couple of weeks ago, I made a countertop cleaner with vinegar, water, and lemon essential oil for my kitchen countertops, cleans them and smells great...not chemically!

Lavendar ~ Widely used for its calming and relaxing qualities, Soothes occasional skin irritations, Reduces the appearance of skin imperfections,  Helps to ease feelings of tension.  Another daily use oil ~ I use it nightly on the bottom of my feet to help with a restful night.  Amy has some in a spray bottle mixed with water for a night time pillow mister.  I have used it with skin irritations ~ bites or minor burns.

Deep Blue Blend ~ Apply on feet and knees before and after exercise, Perfect for a soothing massage after a long day or housework, Apply to hands and feet after gardening, Rub on lower back after a day of heavy lifting.  This product is what "sold" me on doTERRA over any other brand.  We all use it ~ I have it in the oil form and the cream.  Mom used the cream on her knees before her knee replacement surgery.  James rubbed it on his side during a kidney stone attack.  I use the oil and cream for muscle aches from arthritis.  Amy has used it monthly.  Greg uses it for shoulder or knee discomfort.  The cream goes on at room temp but as it warms after it connects with your skin....feels great and smells great.  We mix a few drops of the oil with Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) in a roller bottle for small aches like fingers.

Wild Orange ~ Contains powerful antioxidants, Add a drop to your water for a burst of flavor and to promote overall health, during cooler temps, take one or two drops of Wild Orange in a capsule to support a healthy immune system, During cleanup, use Wild Orange to cleanse and purify countertops, tables, and other surfaces.  I used a few drops daily in my hot spice tea with the lemon ~ yum!  This oil has many of the same benefits as lemon with the cleansing, boosting your immune system, and delicious scents!

Peppermint ~ Rub on temples after you wake up for a morning energy boost, diffuse when feeling fatigued or low on energy, take one or 2 drops in a veggie capsule to alleviate occasional stomach upset, promotes digestive health, Place one drop in your mouth to help freshen breath, Helps reduce bloating, gas & occasional indigestion, commonly found in oral hygiene products, add to shampoo or conditioner for a stimulating hair massage, repels bugs naturally. I love the smell of peppermint!  I use it regularly in my hot chocolate.  Disclaimer ~ I can not use this topically without a carrier oil (coconut oil)....it burns my skin.  Most people have no problem, but not me.

Serenity ~ Creates a perfect escape with its calming, renewing fragrance, Promotes relaxation and a restful sleeping environment, Diffuses into a subtle aroma ideal for relaxation, Lessons feelings of tension and calms emotions, Apply to bottoms of feet at bedtime to help wind down before going to sleep,  Add 2-3 drops to a warm bath with Epsom salts to create a peaceful, renewing aroma.  This is a new blend to me....as in I've had it, but not really used it.  I have started diffusing it at night in our bedroom and sleep is very restful!  The scent is pleasant and we both like it.

Purify ~ Refreshing aroma, Eradicates unpleasant odors and clears the air, Protects against environmental threats, Diffuse to purify and freshen the air, Use to soothe away irritations from bug bites.  Honestly, this is not one of my favorites to diffuse...but it does an awesome job of eliminating doggie odors.  But it does an awesome job of taking the sting/itch away from bug bites ~ we mix 8-10 drops in a roller bottle with fco and use it.

Not all essential oils are created alike.  This is definitely a case of "you get what you pay for".  Oils that are really cheap ~ are most likely just a few drops of oil and lots of fillers.  Read labels, contact companies, research!  On each label that doTERRA attaches to an essential oil, it gives the usage information ~ topical, aromatic and/or internal.  With that information, you will know its safe for your family.

I would love to help you with any oil questions or purchases.  I can have any order shipped to me and then mail to you.

And HOW do you get oils for 25% off everyday?  Glad you asked!  doTERRA has 2 ways to get this discount on oils for you and your family!

1. Become a Wellness Advocate (I Am).  The cost is $35 for the first year and $25 for each year after ~ at each renewal you also receive a bottle of Peppermint.  Or become a wellness advocate and buy one of the starter kits ~ then the $35 is waived.  You do pay the $25 renewal each year.  I you choose this, you can also sign up for the loyalty rewards program and earn points on your monthly orders & shipping for free products.  You must order monthly or you lose your points.  But getting free stuff is awesome!  There is no minimum order ~ you just have to order.  Once you begin incorporating Oils into your daily life ~ you will find that ordering every month helps you stay stocked up on what you use and you can add in new oils you want to try.

Another aspect of Wellness Advocate is you can sign other folks up and help them on their Oily journey.  You do earn some extra benefits as a WA for each person you sign up.  This is not required but its an incentive if you do sign folks up.

2.  A new program is the Wholesale Customer Account.  Cost is $35 for the first year, and renewals are $25 each year after that.  This entitles you to buy every Product you want to use for 25% off the retail price.  It really would not take long to earn back your initial $35 in product savings.  With this program, you simply order with the discount applied ~ you don't earn any extra points.

With the awesome technology available today ~ you don't even have to be local to take advantage of any of these deals.  I am doing lots of training classes over the internet with groups in Mississippi and Tennessee.  There is lots to learn and loads of information out there.

Essentially Mondays

I am going to start a new type of Theme blogging ~ and I am making it up as I go along!

Today will be the first ~ Essentially Mondays....on Essential Oils!  I am going to start with oils we use, products & books we like and any tips I find helpful.

Essential Oils are natural parts of plants, flowers, and roots.  You do have to be careful where you purchase your oils from, because many on the market are mixed or "stretched" with other ingredients, which means they are not pure oil.  There are premade blends available of different oils for certain issues or you can blend your own for your particular needs.

Essential Oils have been used since Bible times and 2 were gifts to the Lord when he came to earth as a baby ~ Frankincense & Myrrh. Both have helpful benefits and would have been useful to the young parents of a baby/young child.

Disclaimer ~ none of the information I share should be taken as medical advice (I am not a doctor).
*These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Lavender

Lavandula angustifoliaOur most popular oil, Lavender has been cherished for its unmistakable aroma and its beneficial properties for thousands of years. Lavender is widely used and accepted for its calming and relaxing qualities.* For aromatic, topical, or dietary use.

Lemon

Citrus limonAnother favorite, this essential oil powerhouse is cold-pressed from lemon rinds to preserve its delicate nature and potent properties. Lemon is known as a powerful aromatic, topical, and internal cleanser* that can be used to complement many other oils. Diffusing lemon in a room can cleanse the air and uplift mood. It can also be used on surfaces throughout the home as a non-toxic cleaning booster. For aromatic, topical, or dietary use.
Peppermint

Mentha piperitaPeppermint is popular in countless forms, from toothpaste to chewing gum. As an essential oil, it is useful to ease breathing and as a digestive aid.* For aromatic, topical, or dietary use.
Wild Orange

Citrus sinensisCold-pressed from the orange peel, Wild Orange is excellent for energizing and revitalizing. It is also commonly used as an effective tool for uplifting mood, as well as for its wonderful citrusy aroma. For aromatic, topical, or dietary use.

The oils pictured are ones that I use daily!  The lavender on the bottom of my feet for restful sleep, the peppermint added to my hot chocolate nightly, and the lemon & wild orange in my hot spice tea every morning.  I also use the lemon to spruce up plain water.  When you choose to use an oil for dietary use ~ you need to make sure its a pure oil from a reputable source.  Each doTerra bottle will tell you if the oil is recommended for aromatic, topical or dietary, or if it can be used for all 3.

Oils

Keep those bugs away naturally with essential oils www.onedoterracommunity.com https://www.facebook.com/#!/OneDoterraCommunity:
This would smell better than commercial bug spray!

In my continuing quest to clean up my pinterest boards ~ I started on my Essential Oils board yesterday.  But I got hijacked, after deleting duplicate pins, by the information I saw.  I've gotten in a rut with my oil usage and use the same ones over and over for the same things.  Yesterday, I made some new "brews" and they are working quite well.  As with anything you see or read on the internet or from other folks ~ do your own research and decide what works well for your family ~ any advice or "recipes" found here, should not be taken as medical advice or as an alternative to medicine you are already taking.

I have done my research on oils and we use them topically (on the skin), diffused, and some internally.  I personally love a drop of peppermint oil in my hot chocolate and have no problems with it ~ however, I can't use a drop in hot water because it burns my lips, weird.  Amy and I use lemon in our water and its delicious.  I also add lemon and orange drops to my hot spice tea.

All essential oils are not created equally ~ cheaper isn't better nor is more expensive the best option.  Do your research and find what works for you, your family and your budget.  There are several large essential oil companies that sell through reps directly to the customer (I sell for one of them).  There are also some good quality oils at Sprouts, Whole Foods and Trader Joes.  Before I would take an oil internally, I would contact the company directly and pin them down for a definite answer about the safety of internal use.

There is loads of information and tons of pins on pinterest about oils.  I am going through and printing off the ones that are of interest to me.  Because the FDA is cracking down on claims made by some companies about their oils (and usually the claims are correct information, the fda just wants to control this), something you pin today, may be gone tomorrow.  Which has happened with lots of my pins.  Government regulations and all that are stepping on too many toes these days.

My buddy Deanna over at http://plainhomesteading.blogspot.com/, makes a lot of salves for her family, which is something I would like to do.  These salves could easily take the place of the commercial brands of products for things like dry skin, itches, bug bites, etc.  Maybe I can talk her into sharing her recipes with me.....hint, hint!

If you have an allergy to anything already...one of mine is cedar ~ then that's an oil I won't even try.  I can walk into Home Depot and instantly tell if they have cut cedar wood ~ itchy eyes, nose and throat is no fun.  So use caution ~ even when opening a bottle to test the fragrance.

If you would like to order any oils from me or have any questions about them ~ I would love to hear from you.  Just leave a comment & your email address and I can contact you that way!

Here are some pins I rediscovered yesterday ~

Using Essential Oils Topically ~

I found these great graphics that explain how essential oils work topically ~ the best place we have found to use our oils is on the bottom of our feet ~ usually at bedtime!

This is a "doTERRA - reflex feet chart and oil use guide" and can be found in the book Modern Essentials 5th Edition A Contemporary Guide to the Therapeutic Use of Essential Oils-http://www.mydoterra.com/donnajackson3/
Essential oils added to the bottom of your feet take just 30 seconds to enter your bloodstream and get to work!

Spring Cleaning with Essential Oils

DIY All Purpose Cleaner
3 oz water
2 tsp liquid castile soap ...
Dash white vinegar
5 drops peppermint
15 drops lemon
15 drops wild orange

DIY On Guard Spray Cleaner
1 cup distilled water
1 Tbsp Bronner's Castile Liquid Soap (you can buy on Amazon or at Target or Kroger)
10-15 drops OnGuard. (You could also use any of your other favorite oils to make this cleaner)
Put in a glass spray bottle and use to clean any surface.
OR
You can use ON GUARD CLEANER CONCENTRATE. Just follow directions on bottle for dilution ratios for multi-purpose, dishes, bathrooms, and tough jobs.

Did you know you can steam clean your microwave with essential oils? Here’s a handy dandy tip ~
Fill a bowl with water and add 1 tablespoon white vinegar and 5 drops Lemon oil. Microwave for 5 minutes. When the microwave turns off don't open the door, let the steam sit for a few minutes and then wipe the microwave clean. Brilliant!

Making Oil Products ~

I've wanted to get time to use my essential oils to make some cleaning products for our home.  I had time today ~ it also helped that I've wanted to make some laundry detergent & I either had to make it today or go buy some.  So I made the time!

Here are the recipes I used ~ none original to me, just shared with me from various sources ~

Foaming Hand Soap
2 tablespoons liquid castile soap (unscented or baby formula)
1/4 cup fractionated coconut oil (fco) (stays liquid)
10 drops of your favorite  essential oil (Lemon or On Guard *I used 10 of each!)
Add the castile soap, fco, and oil to a air soap pump.  Fill to the top with distilled water.

Spray Hand Sanitizer
5 drops On Guard Oil
distilled water
Add the oil to a small spray bottle and top of with the water.  Shake gently with each use.
*My spray bottle was probably a 4 ounce size, I used 15 drops of oil.  Can spray on counters, hands, shopping carts, etc.

Liquid Detergent
1/2 cup powdered borax
1/2 cup super washing soda
4 cups very hot water
1/2 cup liquid castile soap (unscented or baby formula)
20 drops essential oil (I used lemon)
3 tablespoons On Guard Concentrate
Mix all ingredients together.  Shake well before using. Store in a closed container.  Use about 2 tablespoons per load.

I love using my essential oils, so much so that I ran out of On Guard.  Since my order just went in and I won't get it till next week, I searched online for a recipe.  I found one on Marmee's Pantry.  Here is the link http://marmeespantry.blogspot.com/2012/09/thieves-oil-recipe-and-uses.html, I am also going to put the recipe below in case the link doesn't work.

Thieves Essential Oil
200 drops clove oil
175 drops lemon oil
100 drops cinnamon oil
75 drops eucalyptus oil
50 drops rosemary oil
makes 1 ounce. (which doesn't sound like much but I refilled my 5ml bottle to the top, then had enough to use in my hand sanitizer, foaming hand soap, and fill 2 small roller bottles.

I got my soap dispensers, roller bottles and spray bottle from My Oil Gear.com ~ very reasonable prices.  Here is their link http://www.myoilgear.com/.  They are an out of state company, but we have a rep that sells for them locally, so we were able to order online and go pick up our goodies yesterday (which saved the shipping cost!)!  If you go on their FB page, you can get an online code for 10% off your entire order!

Now for show & tell!

My laundry soap ingredients (oops, the lemon oil isn't in the picture)

Put my laundry soap in this cute jar ~ but its already too hard to use ~ have to tip the jar to measure the soap ~ I need a smaller glass dispenser with a squitter nozzle!

My foaming hand soap

look it really foams!

So What Do You Do?

So what do you do with all those little brown bottles of essential oils once you have a "collection"?  Research, research, research.  Companies that sell in commercial stores or online have an email address you can inquire at or a phone number you can call.  Folks that blog about oils have a comments box for your questions.  Consultants that sell for companies can answer your questions (or in my case, find the answer and get back with you, but I'm learning!).

TheFamily Physician Kit that I got when I signed up came with the following oils ~ Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Melaleuca (tea tree oil), Frankincense, Oregano, and the oil blends Deep Blue, On Guard, Breathe, & Digestzen.

Here is just a short list of what you can use them all for ~

*apply topically to soothe irritated skin and lips

*add to water in a spray bottle and mist body when overheated
*apply to neck and forehead with lavender to calm headache

Melaleuca Essential Oil ~ First aid for the skin

*take internally at meal times to support healthy, comfortable digestion
*apply to the bottom of feet of children to help ease digestive issues

Note ~ do not use any essential oils or blends in eyes, ears, or nose.

Also, these are  only recommended suggestions on how to use the oils and blends ~ this is not to take the place of medical advice but simply for your information.

Our experiences with the above oils ~

I use lavender daily (actually not my favorite scent) ~ I have it in a small spray bottle diluted with distilled water on my bedside table.  Spray on the bottom of my feet when I got to bed and get a deep, restful nights sleep ~ no more Tylenol pm or melatonin.  This works for me.  The little bottle is mostly filled with water then 4-5 drops of lavender.

I use the Lemon daily ~ I drop 3-4 drops in my water glass and drink.  Yesterday I got a cool glass water bottle to use!  For me its a great diuretic.  I am still taking my prescription pill but will be asking the doctor about dropping that since I am using the other.  Lemon is also great in cleaning sprays for your home ~ nice fresh scent.

I use the peppermint ~ a drop in my hot chocolate is tasty.  Lots of folks use it in their water with lemon and I tried it several days ~ for me it gave my lips a tingly, burning feeling ~ quite unpleasant.

We have the Melaleuca in a roller bottle with other oils and distilled water to use for scrapes, bug bites, etc.

Frankincense is in a roller bottle I carry in my purse.  Through my research, I discovered that its good for dizziness symptoms.  Apply to the bone behind your ear and down the sides of your neck.  I use this for the "lightheaded symptoms", also carry my prescription pills for the more serious symptoms.

Oregano is used in our "morphine bomb" and "z pack" recipe.  We use it in a capsule with other oils ~

Deep Blue is my favorite ~ not only does is work well for aching muscles and joints, it smells awesome.  The oil came in the kit but we also sell a lotion.  After a minute or two on the skin, it has a warming effective.

We don't have a lot of experience yet with the On Guard or the Digestzen but we are working on it.  We did use the on guard in a capsule for Amy to take after she spent the night with some friends of ours (their daddy was sick), I am also going to use it in a foaming hand soap and homemade laundry detergent (we have a concentrated liquid version also).

Almost forgot about Breathe ~ I've been using this to help with seasonal allergies (yay! its springtime!)....one drop on the bottom of each foot...within a minute I can smell it.  It is helping me with the seasonal stuffiness.  Last night I put a couple of drops in my spray bottle with the lavender ~ slept all night and woke up unstuffy.

Trivia.....why put on the bottom of your feet?  One drop of essential oil can nourish every cell in your body.  From the bottom of your feet it enters your blood stream within 30 seconds.

The Bomb ~ Essential Oils

Sunday and yesterday, I had a lot of hip pain (osteoarthritis).  Sitting, laying, almost any position ~ standing wasn't horrible.  I can only guess that this flared up from sitting on the floor playing my with grandbabies on Friday and Saturday.  This MaMa is gonna have to find a low chair to sit in.

I thought about just taking some Aleeve which I've done before.  But then I decided to try the "Morphine Bomb" that I had heard and read about through the essential oils classes I've taken and the facebook boards I'm on and the pins I've got on pinterest.

And then I discovered my flawed plan, while I had read and heard about it ~ I never saved the information and I couldn't find it.  I went on one of the fb boards and asked for the "recipe" and was quickly answered.  The best thing ~ I had all the oils that could be used for this.  So here it is ~~~~~

Morphine Bomb

3-5 drops Oregano Essential Oil (or could use marjoram essential oil)
3-5 drops Lemongrass Essential Oil
3-5 drops Frankincense Essential Oil

Place the drops in an empty vegetable capsule and take with a glass of water.

After the first capsule I took, I could tell a difference in how I was feeling.  In total, I took 3 capsules during the day, the last one being at night.  Before bedtime, I also rubbed some Deep Blue on my hip and leg.  It all worked!  I slept all night and woke up pain free!  Oh, I used 4 drops of each oil in the capsule each time.

Here is the link to my online Essential Oils store ~

Its awesome to have a natural alternative to modern medicine.  I am very thankful for the opportunities to learn and try ~ especially with success!

Shampoo Recipe ~

I fixed my link yesterday to Marmees Pantry for the Shampoo Recipe ~ but just in case it still doesn't work for anyone ~ here is Kim's Original Recipe

Rosemary, Peppermint, Tea Tree Oil Shampoo

empty bottle for the mixture
1/2 cup Unscented Liquid Castile Soap
1/2 cup distilled water
20 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
5 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil (also know as meleleuca essential oil)
3 drops Peppermint Essential Oil

Place the drops in the bottom of you bottle then add the liquid castile soap and the distilled water and gently shake to mix.  Gently shake each time you want to use it to incorporate the oils if they separate.

After I mixed the first batch, I had "extra" room left in my jar, so I did the recipe again ~ but the 2nd time I didn't read the directions.  I swapped the amounts or the rosemary and peppermint oils, so mine is really pepperminty ~ which is just fine with me!

If you would like a source to purchase these oils, please go to my online essential oils store ~

Homemade Shampoo

Many months ago I posted about the No Poo method of hair washing.  No Poo as in no shampoo ~ it worked great but I missed suds.  Strange but true.

About a month ago, I found a post of a "friends" blog about making your own shampoo using Castille soap and essential oils.  Ahhhh, a new idea!  The original post is here ~ http://marmeespantry.blogspot.com/2015/02/easy-homemade-rosemary-peppermint-tea.html (I said "friend" because after you read a persons blog for years, you kind of become "friends".  Kim has some great DIY projects on her blog!)

I gathered all the essential ingredients ~ 5!  Distilled water, liquid unscented castile soap, rosemary essential oil, tea tree essential oil, and peppermint essential oil.  And a jar to store this in.

Now the hard part ~ drop the oils into the bottle, add the water and soap, gently shake, cap the bottle till you are ready to use it.  Got that?  Easy peasy!  Time to make this ~ 2 minutes!

It smells amazing!  Works great!  And I have some suds!  And its a dual purpose mix ~ I've used it as a body wash too ~ very gentle to your skin!  And did I mention ~ it smells amazing?

My jar is one that my daughter in law, Jennifer saved me from her starbucks frappucino thingies, that she occasionally likes...I knew those jars would come in handy!  (Amy is using the jars for her homemade bath salts too!)

I found this flip top jar at Hobby Lobby for 1/2 price last week.  I am going to glass etch "shampoo" on the jar and use this for the shampoo.  The starbucks jar works great but it is kinda tricky with the wider mouth of the jar when you are pouring the shampoo into your hand.  The mixture is very liquid, not thick like commercial products.

This recipe is a keeper.

Oh yeah....it smells amazing!

(I ordered my castile soap off Amazon, then I found it at our local "hippie" grocery store for $5.99 for 16 ounces.  Some friends shared last week that our Kroger carries it and not long ago they had a buy 1 get 1 free sale ~ hopefully they will have another one of these soon!)
