13 Days

I am really not sure how we got from this ~

to the wedding is in 13 days.

This has been a fun, fast, blessed year ~ getting ready for our daughters wedding.

Greg set a budget ~ we just have food for the reception left to buy...and we are under budget.  This would not have been possible without all our talented friends and family who have done so much to help.  A sweet lady at church altered the bridesmaids dresses, another sweet friend is doing lots of behind the scenes help, we've got lots of volunteers for help on the weekend and especially the day of the wedding.

Amy and Austin have been tremendously blessed with 4 wedding showers.  They have loads of new goodies to start their married life with.  Here are some shower pictures ~

Elvis gnome is adorable ~ thank you Hobby Lobby & Denise & Cheyenne ~ he will be at the wedding!

Comforter set from Granny

Austins cousin volunteered to do Amys hair ~ she worked herself into a bridal hair fixin' job!

thanks Jaylee ~ Amy's hair was awesome!

Greg bought these shower gifts ~ tools for the groom!

Amy is wearing my pearls at the wedding ~ Tammy took a set of pearl buttons and made Amy a pair of earrings.  The buttons were some from my great aunt.

these 4 together made me cry!  Amy's teenage year, church friends from our home in Brandon.

Wedding Jitters

Is the mom of the bride supposed to having pre wedding jitters?  I have them.  I wake up suddenly in the middle of the night with my mind racing and my nerves on edge thinking of something yet to do.  Some important but mostly just little things.  I am very thankful to have some big projects that HAD to get done accomplished.  And honestly, some of the little stuff can get done or not get done.

Last week one of those moments was realizing we didn't have the bubbles for the send off for Amy and Austin.  Its just a detail but one she wanted.  I had a little time so I went to Hobby Lobby ~ found what we wanted and then had a glorious time walking around for about an hour, just looking.  I found a 24 pack of bubbles for 3.99 in the party section ~ the little bottles are brightly colored but not real wedding-y looking.  Then I found the wedding bubbles 24 pack for 9.99 ~ paying 6.99 more per box for a slender tube with a heart lid was not worth it to us.  So we have the brightly colored bottles.

I am very thankful for help ~ a dear lady at church is altering the bridesmaids dresses, loads of offers for wedding day and the weeks leading up to it, clean up offers, etc.  This is a huge blessing!  Greg has kept the Amazon deliveries coming ~ he is ordering the candy for the candy favor bar.  There are just 2 I have to look for at Walmart in the big holiday bags.

I am thankful that Amy is not a bridezilla!  We have all the important stuff taken care of or in the works.    She isn't stressing (to much).  She is going to take off the week before the wedding and bake ~ because every bride needs to bake her own wedding cake (a multi layer chocoloate chip cookie cake) and cupcakes.  Bakers don't trust others to do this for them!  I will just be ready for a messy kitchen and pantry while the baker is at work.  I am sure the dishwasher will get a workout that week!  Since our chickens are laying eggs of all different sizes, we are going to buy uniform size eggs at the grocery store for the baking.  And she has to decide on what flavors to bake ~ my absolute favorite is her spice cupcake, closely followed by lemon, and then chocolate.

We are working on their little house and Austin moves tomorrow to GA.  Amy and I will be down there today, arranging and putting stuff up.  They have been blessed with tons of wonderful gifts for their home.  We have unpacked, arranged, and moved around multiple boxes ~ my recycle bins were overflowing with cardboard this week.

Thankful for ~
offers of help especially from folks who will actually follow through
a not too picky bride
free shipping with Amazon
a delivery driver with a sense of humor

Prayer request ~
for Me and Tammy (Austins mom) ~ lots of changes in our lives!
for Amy & Austin ~ lots of changes in their lives!!!!!

Weekly Chores for Life

While working on a Homemaking Binder for Amy for a shower gift ~ I came across this great chore list~  what great reminders as we go about our daily tasks, week after week.

Monday ~ Wash Day
Lord help me was wash away all my selfishness and vanity, so that I may serve you for the week ahead.

Tuesday ~ ironing Day
Dear Lord, help me to wash out the wrinkles of prejudice that I have collected through the years so that I might see beauty in others.

Wednesday ~ Mending Day
O God, help me mend my ways so I will not set a bad example for others.

Thursday ~ Cleaning Day
Lord Jesus, help me to dust out the many faults I  have been hiding in the secret corners of my heart.

Friday ~ Shopping Day
O, God, give me the grace to shop wisely so that I may bless my family with contentment and happiness and all others in need of love.

Saturday ~ Cooking Day
Help me, my Savior, to brew a big kettle of brotherly love and serve it with clean, sweet bread of human kindness.

As I was typing this, I noticed there wasn't a Sunday.  Since Sunday is historically and typically a day of rest from the work of the week, its "chore" should be to take your family and yourself to church to worship the Lord.

Thankful for ~
reminders of the cleaning we have to do in our lives
the sanctuary of our homes from everyday trials in the world
the fact we are all a "work in progress", no one "has arrived"
that kindness, selflessness, contentment, love and happiness are worthy goals

I just found this on Pinterest and love it!  How appropriate for today's world ~ too many women are trying to be rough and tough and compete with men.  The Lord made us differently and this life is not a competition.  We shouldn't have our own agendas ~ especially is they don't line up with the word of God.  His Word hasn't changed ~ its not politically correct ~ it is pure and holy and perfect for our lives, no matter what our circumstances.

Living in the world today ~ we have to fight for what is good, virtuous, tender, kind and pure.  And it is a battle, everyday!

Thankful for ~

the Lords truth
His encouraging words to us in the Bible
His unfailing faithfulness and love for His children
His guidelines for us, as women, throughout the scriptures

Yesterday was our 12th Anniversary !!!!!!  In that 12 years we have experienced unspeakable joy, growing in our Faith in the Lord, heartaches over our children and family members, loads of fun and laughter, and many times of quiet reflection and prayer.

In 12 years we had 6 of our 7 children graduate from highschool, 3 graduate from college, Greg got his Masters in Engineering, I retired after homeschooling 18 years, we moved from Mississippi to GA, downsized our house, upsized our land, started keeping chickens, had 5 cats adopt us, our dogs had 3 litters of puppies, we traveled a lot both the kids and just the 2 of us, served on mission teams in New York, Oklahoma and Honduras (7 trips to Honduras...I love it), had 3 of our children get married ~ the 4th wedding is in 7 weeks.

The Lord has grown us in our faith and our love for each other and for Him.  We marvel at the truths He has taught us at the same time.  He has taken us to 3 different church families.  Two here in GA...unfortunately the first one was not theologically sound in their doctrine and teaching.

We are thankful for our years together and pray we are blessed with many more!

It was lots of fun watching the moon cover the sun (with my proper eye proctection!).  But it wasn't what I did not get dark here - just less light.  Taking pictures with my good camera was a bust ~ the sun shines brightly in all my pictures in spite of the moon covering the surface (about 98% coverage at my house).  However ~ the time was well spent ~ and it does show the magnificent creation of the sun and moon, and the Lords  creativity.  No debates on any issue that isn't important, just the Glory of God on display for everyone to see.

With vertigo, I can't look up for long periods of time - so I got a chair. Before coverage.

About half coverage.

Bridal Fun

The days are zipping by~just a little over 2 months left till the wedding!

Several weeks ago, my mom, sister, and neice gave Amy a Bridal Shower.  Most of our family was able to be there, Austins Mom, Tammy and a cousin were here from Alabama, plus 5 special ladies who have known Amy since birth (2 of them have known me since I was born!).

They planned a Saturday morning brunch, and all the food was delicious.  Then came the fun of opening say she was blessed and overwhelmed would both be understatements.  These sweet ladies were generous and loving to my daughter, bride to be.

Our sweet special ladies

The "kids" table!  Katie, Bethany, Kalen, and Amy

Granny, Jennifer, Megan, Becky, Hailey Lorrie

Me, Mandy, Tammy, Sandy

my great nephew, Daniel got into gift opening

Amy loves antique glassware ~ I found this antique Pyrex set in MS~I can't find a picture of it but Tammy got her a pink depression glass platter that has "Give us this day, our daily bread" embossed on it~

We did a mini shower the night before ~ Austin got shower gifts...from granny a huge roll of duct tape~cause duct tape fixes everything, and from us a set of barbeque tools and hotdog/marshmallow roasting sticks.  Austins folks also gave them many of the dishes they had registered for at Belks.  In the middle of those boxes was a kinda small flat packing box.  When they opened it it had a Noritake China serving plate in white with light blue border....something they had not registered for.  When they found the card ~ it was a gift from Belks for doing a Bridal registry with them!  Sweet!!!!!

unsolving the mystery of the china plate

the gift platter!
Their dishes are stoneware in taupe, light blue and turquoise.  They registered for 4 placesettings of each color so they can mix and match on the table.  She has gone back and registered for the white ones, they just came out with.

The Bridal registries are fun to fill out ~ her wish lists on each on has inexpensive items (little kitchen gadgets), practical items (laundry hamper, towels, shower curtain, etc.), and lots of kitchen electronic items!  They have already been tremendously blessed and they just keep coming!  They have 2 more showers before the wedding!

Thankful for ~

the generosity of friends & family
the laughter shared
the spoiling of my daughter
good fun & fellowship
helping Amy get her house ready

Life Choices

I have come to the conclusion that no matter how well we raise our children, no matter how many times they are in church a week, no matter how much counseling we give them ~ they make their own decisions and they have to live with the consequences of those decisions....the good, the bad and the ugly.

It is hard to let my children take the consequences and not step in and help them at all ~ tough love stinks.  It has resulted in many tears, countless sleepless nights, and churning guts.  Its hard of a mom.  I don't think this ever gets easier.

We have 3 children going through major, potentially life altering situations.  Amy's is a major baby is getting married.  And moving away ~ ok only 15 minutes but still for me this is major.  The closer the wedding gets, the more anxious I get ~ its all good, just different.  I have 2 other children going through situations we have no control over and we just have to sit, pray, and watch/listen.  These are the hard ones.

We are encouraging where we can, praying always, worrying lots (especially me, its a mom thing), etc.  One is a situation we never thought we would walk through again....ever.  The other is one we never wanted to happen.

We can't protect our children forever.  All of them are adults.  They have to face up and be responsible and act like adults.  On the flip side ~ we are always the parent, we don't stop being the parent when they are grown.  We can still offer advice and guidance but not realistically expect them to obey.  The saying "been there, done that" can apply, but some have to learn the very hard way.

Oh well.

Today I chose to be thankful for ~

quiet mornings I can study the Bible, in depth
long periods of prayer (some in the awake hours of the middle of the night)
recalling good times
listening friends, family & our Pastor
crafting time in the afternoons
books to read and lose myself in

Fun, busy week

Last Friday I got to surprise my Miss. buddies and it sure was a lot of fun!  Their daddy had been working in Athens all week and they drove over for the weekend.  But, the kids were led to believe we were out of town ~ to pull off the surprise.  Amy, Greg and I met them at the Varsity in Athens for lunch and at least one of the kids was super surprised....Ragen!  It was so worth it to see her face and get her sweet hugs.  Honestly...they all have sweet hugs.  Then we went to Party City to buy some of Amy's wedding stuff ~ the invitations & envelope seals, coffee cups and lids, napkins for the buffet and dessert tables and huge bags of candy for the candy favor bar.  And Party City has an app with coupons, which I got to take advantage of!

Then back to the house for numerous games of Umo (Lauren's word for Uno), Phase 10, and Cirkus (a shape game like Blockus).

They came back the next day ~ Steven was a huge help with Greg fixing a belt on the boat, we went to the Farm Stand for peaches, watermelon and cantaloupe, picked garden stuff in the field, and played Uno and Phase 10.  And then we watched it rain ~ a lot.  We thought our Stone Mountain Laser Show trip was going to be washed out but we went anyway and it was a fantastic, soggy, patriotic show.  Oh, we showed them Amy's veil and Miss Lauren decided she needed one I made her a veil ~ which she wore all day, to the farm stand and too the grocery store.

They headed back to MS on Sunday morning ~ and the Smiths drove over and got here Sunday evening.  Austin stayed in our RV.  We ran lots of errands.  Austin's mom, Tammy brought over the flowers she had made ~ all the bouquets, table centerpieces, corsages, boutonnieres, etc.  She did a fantastic job and they were beautiful.  Monday afternoon, she stayed at the house with me and worked on a couple of more corsages and a boutonniere.  I had a project to finish also, so we had a nice visit.  Amy, Austin and his dad went to the new house & ripped up carped in 2 rooms and got them ready to lay the new flooring.

Monday night we headed back to Stone Mountain for the Laser Show again...this time half of Atlanta was trying to get into the park with us.  It was packed!  All was great except for one incidence ~  at the end of the Laser show and before the Patriotic fireworks show ~ they had everyone rise for the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.  If you chose not to stand and be respectful (like the people behind us) ~ then you should, at the very least close your mouth.  Those folks were loud and obnoxious the whole time ~ I shushed them at one point.  But think about it ~ you are at a Patriotic celebration of our Nations 241 st birthday on the Eve of the 4th of July ~ if you don't want to be respectful, you should have stayed home.  I am proud of our Nation, our Heritage, and the sacrifices made by our brave Military. (rant over)

Tuesday, we spent time at the lake with Katie her crowd, and Austin & his folks.  Lots of fun swimming, playing with water squirters, watermelon eating, tubing, jet ski riding and knee boarding.  Then the rain started.  After we got the boat loaded back onto the trailer, the thunder and lightning started so we were thankful that didn't happen while we were on the water.  We let Cracker Barrel fix our dinner that night!  Yum!

Wednesday we went out to the house and worked on painting and the floor.  They got the floor done in the little bedroom and the master bedroom.  Greg finished up the last strip of flooring in the master and the little bedroom closet last night.  Now we need to do the baseboards and touch up any spots for paint.  Amy, Tammy and Austin cleaned the vent covers, the ceiling fans, and Amy spray painted the vent covers.  Everything is looking nice and clean and will be fanstastic when all the projects are completed.

After visiting James yesterday and going to Walmart and Kroger with Mom, I sat down last night and cross stitched.  Something nice and lazy.  Amy & Greg worked last night ~ Will and I had leftovers for dinner.

Oh, and we sold Amy's car.  She has been wanting too for a while.  Greg put it on Craigs List on Friday night and it was sold by Sunday afternoon.  Now, to find the girl another vehicle.  Her biggest want on her car list is a working air conditioner!

I am thankful for ~
help with wedding preparations
sales and coupons on apps
watching Amy & Austin interact with each other
household help with their future home together
recreation time
the USA and all it represents

Here are some pictures of our fun, busy, tiring week!  And even though it was was worth every minute!
