Blueberry Picking

blueberry bushes ~ the guy only has 200+
The other night while preparing dinner for VBS, Angel told me about a "pick your own" blueberry farm about 30 minutes away from our homes.  We decided to pack up the kids....ages 1 1/2 - 18 and go pick.  We drove out to "the middle of no where" according to my dramatic 16 year old and got busy.
2 hours, 1 brair patch incident, 1 wasp sting and lots of sweating later we ended up with 5 gallons of berries.  And Lauren (1 1/2) ate uncountable numbers of blueberries ~ we all kept slipping them to her and the girl was popping them in her mouth like they were m&m's.

I am looking forward to having little Robert join us on some of these adventures when he is old enough!

Another glimpse into Amy Land...

As we are driving to this "farm" we turn off the main road onto a road with no street sign...then Amy land kicks in ~~~~
"Its never a good thing when roads don't have signs.  Miss Angel is driving us out here to do us in and no one will ever find us.  Man, I should have gotten an icee instead of a coke when we stopped for my last drink.  The authorities will never find us.  Just how did she find out about this place?"

Amy Land is always colorful and imaginative and it kicks in when you least expect it....and Amy is the one that got stung by the wasp.

I got 2 gallons of blueberries.  Canned them last night and up with 16 & 1/2 pints.  Every 2 pints will make a double batch of blueberry muffins ~ super yummy!

I've also got a picture of these 6-8 foot tall bushes to show mine what they are aspiring to.  I don't need 200+ bushes....just 6-8 that get busy, grow and produce!  My bushes need to be over-acheivers!  Its a great goal for them ~ in my opinion!

  1. Blueberries are extremely healthy fruit! I love them but they are so expensive at the market. I hope some day to plant some, although they would have to be in containers, I believe it gets too cold her in the winter months. Sounds like you had a great time and didn't "end up in Amy land". LOL!

  2. Yes Monica, We are thankful that Amy land just lives on in her over active brain. We paid $8 for a gallon of blueberries that we picked ourselves. I thought that was a very reasonable price considering what I see at stores and farmers markets.

    Enjoy your blueberry weekend!!

  4. I actually like Amy Land....but what difference would an icee vs. coke make if her dire predictions came true? Can't figure that out....

  5. Gracie. Its just the way her mind works...she would rather have an ices for her last drink than a coke. She is and always has been my drama queen! And her brain comes up with these scenarios and they just come out of her mouth! Its really funny!!
