Crewel Embroidery

One of the entries for the State Fair is Crewel Embroidery ~ something I haven't done in 30 years or more.  After the fair last year, I decided to find a kit and try this type of embroidery again.  The kits at the craft stores were very pricey ~ even with a 40% or 50% off coupon ~ so I started looking around on Ebay for a cheap kit.  I found 2 that I purchased from different sellers ~ one for me and one for Amy.  Both were small and should be easy to complete.  Below are a couple of pictures ~

The kit I chose for me had 3 small pictures in it.  And its by Avon (which I sold for many years).  When I received the kit, I discovered that one of the pictures had been started ~ which they didn't mention on ebay, but the kit was really cheap so I didn't complain.  I started stitching the "Peaches" picture 2 days ago and finished last night...its little 2 1/2" by 3 1/2".  As I was stitching, I noticed a funny thing.....all these are canning jar pics ~ and labeled "First Prize at the County Fair" ~ but look at the fruit ~ they all have stems and leaves!  You don't can with stems & leaves or peach pits for that matter!

I like the way it turned out ~ now to frame it!

My views on crewel ~ it was another category to enter, it was ok to do, it will go well in the kitchen ~ but I still like cross stitch the best!

Oh, and for any who may ask ~ how do you find the time ~ I cross stitch, quilt, crochet, etc. while we travel (Greg always drives), sitting in the car waiting for Amy during dance lessons), or while watching tv at night!  If you want to do it ~ you will find the time!
