This is the 3rd year Amy and Will have participated in Bible Drill at our church.  The following are some facts for the the whys, hows, what fors, when questions.....

Purpose ~
The purpose of the Mississippi Student Bible Drill is to challenge students to develop skills in using their Bible.  Working together to prepare for the drill students increase their love for the Bible, and its words and phrases become a part of them.

The students participating in Bible Drill have learned the books of the Bible, quotation verses, key passages, and Bible answers.  Each are timed and they have to accomplish this recall, find the book~chapter~and verse in 8 seconds or less.

All of the 7-12 graders memorized the following verses (in the King James Version)

Genesis 1:31
Psalm 56:3
Psalm 119:11
Proverbs 15:1
Provers 22:1
Isaiah 40:8
Luke 19:10
John 13:35
Acts 1:8
Acts 4:12
Romans 14:12
1 Corinthians 3:16
2 Timothy 3:16
Hebrews 13:8
Revelation 4:11

In the Key Passages Drill, they are given a Bible subject and they have to find the book/chapter/verses

When asked the following questions, they have memorized the passages that go with them, can find them, and then read when asked....

Am I alone? (Joshua 1:9)
Who should I trust? (Isaiah 26:4)
What are the results of seeking good? (Amos 5:14)
What does Jesus require of me? (Matthew 16:24)
How did God show His love? (Romans 5:8)
Who lives in me? (Galatians 2:20)
Who did Christ Jesus come to save? (1 Timothy 1:15)
How can I resist the devil? (James 4:7)
How can I minister to others? (1 Peter 4:10)
Who is Jesus? (1 John 4:15)

The next section of the drill time is the Leader calling out books/chapters/& verses of the Bible and the student finding them and able to read them.  All of this work is done by the kids from Jan. - March/April.

Last night was our Church Drill to qualify the students for the Associational Drill tonight.  They were timed and judged by adult members of our church.  Our youth and children will great and all have advanced to the Assoc. Drill.  After the drill tonight, the students who qualify will go to the State Drill next week.

Now the why,
why learn the Bible?  We all need to be able to defend our faith, explain our beliefs, and be faithful to the Lords words to us.   Psalm 119:11 "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You." (NKJV)

why locate the scriptures quickly and accurately? to be able to find the answers you need, when you need them ~ they are much better, quicker and more efficient than their parents!

why do it in a group situation? Its fun ~ they are developing friendly competition, they are encouraging one another to spend time in Gods word, they are working toward a goal as a group!

Our children have been committed to learning about the Lord and His Word in this fun, educational, informative, encouraging way.  They made the commitment to study and follow through and they did a fantastic job.....here are some pictures from last night!
