Galatians 2:20 & 21 "For I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing."

A Gospel Primer lesson on the Glory of God

This lesson is taken from Milton Vincent’s book A Gospel Primer for Christians Learning to See the Glories of God’s Love.  If you don’t have a copy of this book, we strongly urge you to get one.  Make it a daily part of your quiet time with God, preaching the gospel to yourself daily.  In part two of the book, the gospel is presented in narrative form.  We would like to share this with you.

The Glory of God

1.                  My God is immense beyond imagination.  He measured the entire universe with merely the span of His hand.[i]
2.                  He is unimaginably awesome in all of His perfections, absolutely righteous, holy, and just in all of His ways. [ii]
3.                  He has also been unbelievably good and merciful to me as the creator and sustainer of my life.
4.                  Every breath, every heartbeat, every function of every organ in my body is a gift from Him.
5.                  Every legitimate pleasure I experience is a gift from His loving hand to me.[iii]
6.                  All that I am and all that I have I owe to Him and to His goodness.[iv]
7.                  My life in every way is, and will continue to be, utterly dependent upon Him in whom I live and move and have my being.[v]
8.                  This wonderful God is the most supremely worthy Object of admiration,[vi] honor,[vii] and delight[viii] in all of the universe;
9.                  And He has created me with the intention that I might glorify Him[ix] by finding my soul’s delight in Him and by living in joyful obedience to Him in all of my ways.[x]

Thank you Lord Jesus for our health, our provisions, our family, and your protection, guidance, and love.

[i] Isaiah 40:12. “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, and marked off the heavens by the span . . . ?”
[ii] Deuteronomy 32.
[iii] 1 Timothy 6:17. “ . . . God . . . richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.”
Acts 14:17. “and yet He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good and gave you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.”
[iv] James 1:17. “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.”
[v] Acts 17:28. “for in Him we live and move and exist . . .”
[vi] Psalm 96.
[vii] Revelation 4:11. “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”
[viii] Psalm 16:11. “. . . in Your presence is fullness of joy: In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”
Psalm 37:4. “Delight yourself in the Lord . . .”
[ix] Romans 11:36. “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things [including me].  To Him be the glory forever. Amen.”

Bible Drill 2012

This is the 3rd year Amy and Will have participated in Bible Drill at our church.  The following are some facts for the the whys, hows, what fors, when questions.....

Purpose ~
The purpose of the Mississippi Student Bible Drill is to challenge students to develop skills in using their Bible.  Working together to prepare for the drill students increase their love for the Bible, and its words and phrases become a part of them.

The students participating in Bible Drill have learned the books of the Bible, quotation verses, key passages, and Bible answers.  Each are timed and they have to accomplish this recall, find the book~chapter~and verse in 8 seconds or less.

All of the 7-12 graders memorized the following verses (in the King James Version)

Genesis 1:31
Psalm 56:3
Psalm 119:11
Proverbs 15:1
Provers 22:1
Isaiah 40:8
Luke 19:10
John 13:35
Acts 1:8
Acts 4:12
Romans 14:12
1 Corinthians 3:16
2 Timothy 3:16
Hebrews 13:8
Revelation 4:11

In the Key Passages Drill, they are given a Bible subject and they have to find the book/chapter/verses

God's Covenant with Abraham (Genesis 12:13)
The Israelites leave Egypt (Exodus 12:37-42)
Daniel in the Lions Den (Daniel 6)
Jesus Teaches on Marriage (Mark 10:1-12)
The Great Commandments (Mark 12:28-34)
The Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32)
The Crucifixion (John 19)
Family Relationships (Ephesians 5:21-6:4)
The Faith Chapter (Hebrews 11)
The Great White Throne Judgement (Revelation 20:11-15)

When asked the following questions, they have memorized the passages that go with them, can find them, and then read when asked....

Am I alone? (Joshua 1:9)
Who should I trust? (Isaiah 26:4)
What are the results of seeking good? (Amos 5:14)
What does Jesus require of me? (Matthew 16:24)
How did God show His love? (Romans 5:8)
Who lives in me? (Galatians 2:20)
Who did Christ Jesus come to save? (1 Timothy 1:15)
How can I resist the devil? (James 4:7)
How can I minister to others? (1 Peter 4:10)
Who is Jesus? (1 John 4:15)

The next section of the drill time is the Leader calling out books/chapters/& verses of the Bible and the student finding them and able to read them.  All of this work is done by the kids from Jan. - March/April.

Last night was our Church Drill to qualify the students for the Associational Drill tonight.  They were timed and judged by adult members of our church.  Our youth and children will great and all have advanced to the Assoc. Drill.  After the drill tonight, the students who qualify will go to the State Drill next week.

Now the why,
why learn the Bible?  We all need to be able to defend our faith, explain our beliefs, and be faithful to the Lords words to us.   Psalm 119:11 "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You." (NKJV)

why locate the scriptures quickly and accurately? to be able to find the answers you need, when you need them ~ they are much better, quicker and more efficient than their parents!

why do it in a group situation? Its fun ~ they are developing friendly competition, they are encouraging one another to spend time in Gods word, they are working toward a goal as a group!

Our children have been committed to learning about the Lord and His Word in this fun, educational, informative, encouraging way.  They made the commitment to study and follow through and they did a fantastic job.....here are some pictures from last night!

Glimpses into "Amy Land"

Sometimes Amy Land is a scary place.
Tonight, Amy Land was...well, it defies description!
Here are tonights ponderings...

Do vegans eat animal crackers?

Do people who are afraid of needles ~ sew?

Do people who don't believe in God buy their children a toy Noah's Ark?

I wonder if anyone has ever dipped their chickens feet in different colors of paint and let them walk on paper and make a painting?

This glimpse of Amy Land all occured in about 15 minutes.
She threatened us with her vast knowledge of animal facts that she assured me "I didn't want to know."

Amy Land is always creative, imaginative and thought provoking!
And yes, these questions lend a whole new aspect to homeschooling!

Need I mention that she is my most creative child?

Maybe she shouldn't have any coca cola at night!

Modesty

1 Timothy 2: 9-10

In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.

1 Peter 3: 3-4

Do not let your adornment be merely outward - arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel- rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

Proverbs 9:13

A foolish woman is clamorous; She is simple and knows nothing.

Websters 1828 Dictionary

Modesty
1. That lowly temper which accompanies a moderate estimate of one's own worth and importance.  This temper when natural, springs in some measure from timidity, and in you inexperienced persons, is allied to bashfulness and diffidence.
2. Modesty is an act or series of acts, consists in humble, unobtrusive deportment, as opposed to extreme boldness, forwardness, arrogance, presumption, an audacity or impudence.
3. decency
4. In females, modesty has the like character as in males; but the word is used also as synonymous with chastity, or purity of manner - purity of the mind - fear of disgrace and ignominy fortified by education and principle.  Unaffected modesty is the sweetest charm of female excellence, the rightest gem in the diadem of their honor.

This isn't about skirts/dresses vs pants/short/capris.  Thats for each family to decide for themselves with the Lords guidance.  But this is about appearing modest in appropriate clothing in public and especially in church.  When did going to church = dressing provocatively, immodestly, in short, short dresses, poured into your clothing, with your body above the waist practically uncovered? When did appearing in church become an opportunity to wear low cut blouses, dresses, spiky high heels, tons of makeup, glittery clothing & jewelry, shorts, or any of that garbage?  And why don't the Moms say NO? Its because some of them are dressing the same way!  What message are you portraying to the congregation, the visitors, the Pastor, and to the Lord.

Summertime is here in Miss.  The public undressing has begun.  It isn't everyone, but I can pretty accurately predict who will wear the inappropriate clothing.  Its very bad to have to  sit in church and pray the Lord will shield your husband & sons from the temptation to look, when the sights are readily available.  The Lord did call Christians to look differently, to act differently, to exhibit modesty, to have a gently & quiet spirit, and to Praise and Honor Him in all we do or say.

We need dress codes in church the same as in schools.

I fear its going to be a very long summer.

We've been keeping very busy around here.  The springtime brings lots of new outdoor activities.  We are praying all the rain from yesterday and today, is washing away the pollen tree mess.  Its certainly cleaned up the air and the pollen dusting everywhere.  It would be nice to get the pool cleaned and it stay that way!

Hope everyone has a wonderfully, productive day or a cozy, lazy day ~~~~ whichever you choose.  I think ours will be a mix of both!
